Try to Maintain a Healthy Weight

The key word here is “healthy” – it’s important to remember that what is healthy for you might not be the same as what is healthy for your neighbor, sister, or friend.

So stop comparing yourself to other women in your life when it comes to your weight. And for Christ’s sake, stop comparing yourself to public figures like celebrities, athletes, and models. Do what is right for you, stay away from fad diets, and eat whole foods that make you feel happy and healthy.

No Smoking at All Costs

Smoking has been known to increase the risk of many diseases, and breast cancer is one of them. This is especially true for women approaching menopause, and generally speaking the older you get, the more detriment caused by cigarettes. So stop smoking, and try to limit your alcohol intake as well.

Get Off the Couch and Get Moving

Maintaining an active lifestyle won’t just keep you feeling fit and keep your mood uplifted, it can also reduce your risk of developing breast cancer. Staying active is a huge aspect of maintaining a healthy weight, so do your best to get at least 20-30 minutes of exercise per day. It doesn’t need to be anything too intense, just get on your feet and start moving. If you need a low-intensity workout that won’t have a negative impact on your joints and muscles, try yoga.

Breast Feed Your Children

There is a lot of controversy between breastfeeding and bottle feeding, but there is no question that breastfeeding your children reduces the risk of breast cancer. Mayo Clinic says that “the longer you breast-feed, the greater the protective effect.”
