Luck or Not: The Funniest Casino Mishaps Ever Recorded

People usually enjoy playing All Jackpots casino games online as well as the amazing variety of their real-life counterparts. Part of the fun is hoping for the big win, and the rest is offered by playing a game that’s easy, simple, and entertaining – like the majority of those you can play online at the All Jackpots and beyond. Casinos – both online venues like the All Jackpots and real life casinos in Vegas and beyond – are the temples of fortune and luck but they are not without the chance of mishaps. And these can turn the biggest smile and cheer into a resigned sigh in no time – like in the cases below.

Jackpots and steaks

Slot machines are famous for being unpredictable but they usually don’t joke with the players’ wins. Usually, we say, as a player at the Resorts World Casino in Queens, New York, surely felt like it. Katrina Bookman played a game called “Sphinx Slot Machine” at the above-mentioned casino last August when she thought she hit the biggest jackpot of her life: $42 million dollars. She even made a selfie with the game’s screen showing her massive win. Imagine her disappointment when she found out that, due to a malfunction, her win was actually far smaller – a total of $2.25. And a steak dinner as a consolation prize.

The casino has blamed the erroneous winning message on a defect in the game’s electronics – after all, the maximum payout allowed for this game is $6,500. Now, she tries to find justice in court, even though the malfunction was confirmed by the New York State Gaming Commission.

You win some, you lose all

This would be a funny story if things happened in a different order – but the way it did, is tragic and sad. In the year 2000, cocktail waitress Cynthia Jay-Brennan went to Las Vegas to celebrate the birthday of her future mother-in-law. Given her job, she wasn’t the wealthiest of them all but everything changed when she pulled the lever of Megabucks, one of the most famous slot machines in Vegas – she won a jackpot worth $35 million, a world record at the time.

Unfortunately, she could only be happy for her winnings for a few weeks, until a drunk driver (with 16 previous DUI arrests under his belt) ran a red light and hit her and her sister. Today, she is paralyzed from the chest down, and her case became the driving force behind changes in DUI legislation in Nevada.

Twice is the charm

Last but not least, let us take a look at the case of Elmer Sherwin, which disproves the saying that “lightning never strikes the same thing twice”. Sherwin, a dedicated slot machine fan, decided to try his luck on the one-armed bandits of the freshly opened Mirage in Las Vegas, in the year 1989. It was his lucky day, it seems, as he hit a jackpot worth $4.6 million. A life-changing win, for sure, for Sherwin and his wife, who left Vegas to travel the country in their motor home. Settling in Vegas after sixteen years, Sherwin never stopped playing the slots, spending around $100 a week on his passion. Imagine his surprise when he hit the same Megabucks jackpot again, this time winning not less than $21 million. He was 92 at the time.
